Palm lines and what they mean
For centuries palmists have read the hand as a map of character. These notes draw on two classic books on the subject: William Benham's The Laws of Scientific Hand Reading (1900) and Cheiro's Palmistry for All. Here you will find the main lines in brief, why both hands matter, and how to photograph your palm.
Lines
The life line curves around the thumb. Benham and Cheiro read strength and health in it, not the year of death.
Heart lineThe heart line runs beneath the fingers. For Cheiro, where it begins shows how a person loves: ardently, guardedly or calmly.
Head lineThe head line crosses the middle of the palm. For Cheiro, its start speaks of caution and its slope of imagination.
Fate lineThe fate line rises towards the middle finger. For Cheiro, where it starts shows whether a person makes their own way. Many hands have none.
Both hands
Palmists compare both palms: one shows what a person was born with, the other who they have become.
How to photograph your palmA reading from a photo needs both hands in full, even light and the base of the fingers in view.
Couples
Benham and Cheiro never scored compatibility in percentages. A couple is compared by the heart, head and life lines on both hands.
